UPDATED: 3:09 pm EST February 16, 2006

KETTERING, Ohio -- Police in Kettering spent the morning searching for an 11-year-old girl who went missing early Thursday morning.

Authorities said the girl’s parents last saw their daughter around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when she went to bed. The girl’s parents said when they went to wake her up around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, she was not there.

The girl’s parents said they went to the school and discovered that she was not there either. Police said they activated the Code Red system, which automatically makes phone calls to about 3,000 homes in the surrounding area.

It appears that the girl was at the Bagel Café on Far Hills Avenue with some friends. Authorities said it appears that someone who received the phone call by Code Red saw the girl and contacted police.

Investigators said it appears that the girl was upset about a recent move to Kettering and about some school grades.

The girl has since returned home and is safe.

KETTERING, Ohio -- Authorities said for several hours Thursday morning, police in Kettering searched for a missing 11-year-old girl. They said she was eventually found, but not before police issued a Code Red alert to thousands of homes in Kettering,

Mary Alexandria Bachelor, who goes by Alex, was not in her room when her alarm clock went off around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Her parents called police and then officers called the girl’s friends and school mates for help.

Police rushed to the girl’s home on Lotz Street to get a picture and a description of her. After an initial search, detectives called out the K-9 unit to help in the search.

Bachelor was eventually found wandering a neighboring street and was escorted home around noon. Authorities said the girl was distraught over a recent move to Kettering and grades that were slipping in school.

Officers checked the girl’s school at Van Buren Middle School, talked to friends, and canvassed area streets.
