The city of Marco Island put out a CodeRED alert to residents at 3:35 p.m. today with information about Tropical Storm Ernesto. CodeRED is an automated system that sends messages to everyone that lists their local or out-of-state contact numbers.

The city has no voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Marco Island in place at this time. The alert said that the stormÕs track continues toward the southern part of Florida.

Tropical storm-force winds of 45 and up to 70 miles per hour, heavy rain and flooding are likely in the area tonight and tomorrow.

Winds of 45 mph may have a potential for tornadoes. Boats and any loose outside articles should be secured by tonight. Predicted rainfall is from 5 to 10 inches, according to the city. Residents along the beach should expect unusually high tides. Flooding of low-lying areas and roads are likely.

Citizens and visitors are urged to remain indoors during the storm period and avoid unnecessary driving. Fuel automobiles and make sure that you have adequate supplies of non-perishable food, water, batteries and medicines. Temporary loss of utilities, cell phone and cable TV may occur.

There wonÕt be any commercial solid waste collection service Wednesday, while the city of Marco Island will continue to provide essential services.
