Test gets police officers up early

Local law enforcement has tested its new "code red" system.

The system enables dispatchers to call homes and businesses to warn of a possible emergency such as a chemical disaster. It is online in Fargo, Cass County and in Moorhead and Dilworth, Minn.

Wednesday's test began at 4:30 a.m. Lt. Tod Dahle said employees did not know the call was coming. While most employees arrived at their designated assignment in less than two hours, Dahle said the test did find some communication shortcomings, mainly with secondary call numbers or cell phone notification.
