City Tuesday update

By City of Marco Island

10/25/2005

An example of the many trees that were blown over or stripped bare by the high winds.

Restrictions on re-entry to Marco Island have been lifted. A few power lines may still be down and there may be debris on the roads. All are advised to use extreme caution.

LCEC is working on power restoration. Power has been restored to more than 50 percent of the island. The locations of all outages are known and power will be restored as quickly as possible.

Not all traffic signals are operating and many traffic signs are down. Stop and yield at all intersections and use extreme caution.

A precautionary boil water notice has been issued due to lose of pressure in the water system. The use of bottled water is recommended for consumption and cooking. After electrical power is restored, boiling of water is recommended: Run water for several seconds to flush lines; boil water for minimum of one minute at a rolling boil before consumption or use in cooking; do not add bleach or other disinfectants to your water. This is a precautionary boil water notice. Residents will be notified by a Code Red telephone message when the precautionary boil water advisory is no longer in effect.

Please disconnect lawn irrigation systems until Saturday, Oct. 29.

No flooding was reported. About 75 percent of the homes experienced minor damage, primarily roof tiles, screened pool enclosures and landscaping.

Debris Removal - Separate debris into two piles, one for yard waste, one for construction debris. You do not have to bundle yard waste or cut to specific size. Place materials between sidewalk and edge of pavement (in swale). Please place your storm debris in the swales immediately. Because debris will be picked up by contractors with heavy equipment, place your debris away from you driveway and mailbox to avoid damage. Debris on private property will not be picked up.

Construction debris (including pool enclosures) may be placed on the swale, next to the road, but must not be mixed in with the yard waste.

Waste Management will begin normal garbage pick-up on Thursday.

A curfew is in effect for Oct. 25 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

City Parks and the Mackle Park Recreation Center are closed.
