Emergency notification system running in Moore

The City of Moore has contracted with Emergency Communications Network Inc., of Ormond Beach, Fla., for its "CodeRed" high-speed telephone emergency notification services.
The CodeRed system enables city officials to deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone messages to targeted areas or the entire city at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour.
City Manager Steve Eddy said having the service will enable the city to provide time-critical information concerning emergencies and changes in normal city services.
"Residents will be able to receive calls concerning their water being temporarily out due to a main break or that there is a child missing in their neighborhood, within minutes," Eddy said.
He further expects the city to use the service to remind residents of changes in sanitation pick up schedules during holidays.
Gayland Kitch, Moore's emergency manager and 911 director, cautioned telephone notification systems are only as good as the telephone database supporting them.
"If your number is not in the database, you will not be called during an emergency event," Kitch said. "However, our CodeRED system gives individuals and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers directly to the system's telephone database."
To ensure no one is omitted, Eddy and Kitch urge all individuals and businesses to log onto Moore's Web site, www.cityofmoore.com, and follow the link to the "CodeRED Residential and Business Data Collection" page.
Those without Internet access may call Moore's 911 center at 793-5171 to give their information over the phone. Required information includes first and last name, physical street address and primary and additional phone numbers.
